Joplings is a long-established independent practice of Chartered Surveyors, Residential and Commercial Sales & Lettings Agents, Architectural Designers, Building Surveyors and Valuers.  This has ensured our clients receive the highest level of customer care, creating repeat business spanning over generations. We believe this has ensured our longevity, strong reputation and continued success in the local area over the past 167 years. We love talking to our clients, meeting people and being involved with property. In 1996 Joplings amalgamated with Thirsk Farmers Auction Mart and Thirsk Properties, creating the offices in Thirsk and Ripon.

Our History

1852

Founded in Masham by Mr Robert Imeson, rural surveyor, based at Sutton Grange, Masham and continued by his son, also Robert Imeson as Robert Imeson & Son across Marsham, Bedale and Ripon.

1909

Robert Imeson admitted Mark Bellerby Jopling as a partner and the business operated as Imeson and Jopling.

1912

Harold Cawthorn (an auctioneer and valuer living at Plumpton Hall, Ripon) was admitted to the firm as a partner and the firm became Imeson, Jopling and Cawthorn.

1919

Robert Imeson chose to retire but under request from the remaining partners (Jopling and Cawthorn) Robert agrees to retire without publicity and allow the partnership and Imeson, Jopling and Cawthorn name to remain.

1982

Mr Thomas Kirby, merged his business with Mr Michael Blackburn and Mr Peter Hanby, dropping the name Cawthorn and creating Joplings.

1996

Joplings amalgamated with Thirsk Farmers Auction Mart and Thirsk Properties, creating the offices in Thirsk and Ripon.

2016

Joplings achieved The Guild of Property Professionals status for both offices in Ripon and Thirsk

Key Contacts

Michael Stephenson joined Joplings Property Consultants in 2009 as a Chartered Surveyor working in both the Ripon and Thirsk offices. He was promoted to General Manager in 2011 with overall responsibility for the running of the business covering residential sales, lettings, architecture and building surveying, valuations, and building surveys. In 2014 Michael was appointed Company Secretary of Thirsk Farmers Auction Mart Company ltd the parent company of Joplings Property Consultants.

Sam Torkington joined Joplings Property Consultants in 2008 as lettings negotiator following working in residential lettings for a national agent. Sam has built a reputation in the Ripon and surrounding area to assist Landlords with finding suitable tenants and managing their properties. Contact Sam to take the stress out of managing your property investment, particularly with the ever-increasing lettings legislation.

Emma Orde-Powlett has been working in the Thirsk office heading up the Lettings team, managing more than 130 properties, securing repeat business in the Thirsk area and the surrounding area, particularly the rural villages. Clients have benefitted from Emma’s extensive lettings knowledge and customer care, helping to grow the lettings business.
